Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão visits the People’s Republic of China
His Excellency the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão leaves today, on 13 October 2009, with a Government delegation including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zacarias da Costa, the Minister of Finance, Ms. Emilia Pires, the Minister of Infrastructure, Mr. Pedro Lay, and the Secretary of State for Natural Resources, Mr. Alfredo Pires.
The delegation will take part in the “10th Western China International Economy and Trade Fair”, at the invitation of the People’s Government of Sichuan and the Fair’s Organization Commission.
The “Western Fair” will be held in Chengdu on 16-18 October, under the theme “Seizing Opportunities, Handling Challenges, Opening up and Cooperation, All-win and Development”; for the development of Western China and for enhancing economic and trade cooperation between Asian countries.
On 14 October, the Prime Minister and Brigadier-General Taur Matan Ruak are also scheduled to visit the Shipyard of Poly Technologies Incorporation in Dalian, where the two Shangai III patrol boats recently acquired from the People’s Republic of China are located, along with 36 Timorese soldiers from the Naval Component who are undergoing both theoretical and hands on training.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings and official discussions with senior Chinese representatives and; in particular, with His Excellency the Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, to strengthen the current friendship and cooperation between nations. ENDS
